Founded by James Delano Brinkerhoff in 1902, the firm has been family-owned and operated for four generations. We are proud to have served Garrett, Auburn, Ft. Wayne, Hamilton, Waterloo, and all of Northeastern Indiana, including DeKalb, Noble, Steuben, LaGrange, Allen, and surrounding counties.

Our History

James Delano Brinkerhoff, after graduating from Indianapolis College of Law and conducting missionary work in the Middle East, began practicing law in Garrett in 1902. His son, James Delano Brinkerhoff, Jr., joined him in practice in 1939, establishing the law firm of Brinkerhoff & Brinkerhoff. J. Daniel Brinkerhoff joined the firm in 1974, and most recently, J. Darrick Brinkerhoff has become the fourth generation to join the firm, making it a family tradition to serve the community.

Our Team

J. Daniel Brinkerhoff, a lifelong resident of Garrett, is now retiring after being in practice since 1974. He is a graduate of Garrett High School, DePauw University, and Indiana Law School. J. Darrick Brinkerhoff, as the great, great grandson of the founder, has a strong background in municipal law, real estate law, real estate and business law, and Wills, Trusts, Probate, and Estates. He is a graduate of Garrett High School, Purdue University, and Thomas M. Cooley School of Law.

• Probate and Trust Administration: Our expertise includes estate and trust administration, inheritance tax, fiduciary income tax accounting, and distribution.
• Real Estate: We handle deeds, purchase agreements, sales disclosures, leases, collections, contract sales, and landlord-tenant matters.
• Municipal Law: Our services include municipal governmental issues, plan commission matters, land use, zoning, annexation, drainage board property owners associations, and restrictive covenants.
