I battled in court with my abusive, controlling ex-husband for 7 years over visitation, child support etc. I did everything short of begging the judge to get her to understand how dire our situation was, to no avail. When I remarried, to an enlisted Navy man, my husband and I realized that we needed to hire an attorney if we were going to be able to be free, to keep myself and my son safe and stay together for the next 9 years of his military career.
