Tray Payne is an experienced trial attorney and the founder of Payne, Powell, Truitt, and Chandler (PPTC), with a strong track record of success across various legal cases. Raised in Post, Texas, Tray graduated from Texas Tech University and Oklahoma City University before working as a state and federal prosecutor from 2000-2009. He is dedicated to helping clients achieve favorable outcomes through his extensive legal knowledge and common sense. Tray is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He is also a committed community leader, having served as Mayor of Lubbock, a board member at Trinity Christian School, and an advocate for local health and economic development initiatives.

Matt brings over 25 years of experience in both criminal and civil law to the firm. Before joining, he served as the Elected Criminal District Attorney for Lubbock County and as Chief Attorney for the Midland Independent School District. A native of Amarillo and a resident of Lubbock for 24 years, Matt has achieved outstanding results in his cases and is passionate about being a strong advocate for those in need. Lori, a Lubbock native and graduate of Texas Tech University and its School of Law, began her career in civil litigation and creditor representation, frequently appearing in court in San Antonio and Austin. In 2010, she returned to Lubbock and joined Tray Payne, expanding her practice to include family law, probate, guardianship, debtor/creditor representation, general civil litigation, and personal injury. Matt Chandler, originally from Clovis, New Mexico, brings a wealth of legal experience to clients both in and out of the courtroom. Raised with strong faith and a work ethic, Matt was inspired by his father, a Magistrate Judge and New Mexico State Senator, to pursue a legal career. With over 15 years as a prosecuting attorney, including serving as the elected Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Matt earned numerous accolades such as "New Mexico Prosecutor of the Year." He has handled over 35 murder cases and presided over one of New Mexico's last death penalty trials. As a former New Mexico District Court Judge, he oversaw thousands of cases, including capital murder and family law, and chaired the Committee on New Mexico Criminal Rules of Procedure. Matt has also appeared on major media outlets like America's Most Wanted, CNN, and Good Morning America, further showcasing his expertise.

I hired Matt Chandler for a case I had in Texas 2022. From the time I hired him he told me from A-Z the possibilities of my outcome. Every month he would message me an update about my case and would even message me back in a very timely manor. He worked on this smaller case very well as I feel he would do any other case he is hired for, 10/10 would recommend!
His staff also is very kind and caring, would communicate well and upload documents needed to the portal fast! Hes the man to get the job done! Wouldnt have wished to pick anyone else for my case!

Hiring an attorney for a custody case has to be the most nerve wracking thing a parent ever has to do. Tray & his staff were always accessible. Tray has a no bull approach. He tells it like it is and doesn't sugar coat things which is exactly what you need. I feel they were conscious with keeping the expenses low. I highly recommend Tray & his team!

I am an attorney myself, and my mother had a real estate issue that was out of my wheelhouse. I had worked cases with Tray Payne before and knew he would be the perfect person to refer my mother to. I was not wrong. He was able to explain the situation to her better than I ever could, and to me as well. He provided excellent service to our family and helped us see the options before us. He did not try to take advantage of my mother by talking her into hiring him when it wasn't necessary. This is the type of attorney I strive to be like.

I retained Stacy Riker for divorce proceedings and she was fantastic (or as fantastic as a divorce lawyer can be). I had an idea in mind before hand what I wanted to do and she was great about telling me what my options were and the best way to deal with my particular situation. The hourly rate was also more than reasonable for the services and compared to other lawyers in Lubbock.
They also communicate with you through a website so it makes it pretty easy send messages back and forth without having to play phone tag. After I used Mrs. Riker, I also had them do some other documents and overall couldn't be happier with their services. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family.

When I found myself in a very unpleasant, dark situation, Tray was there to walk me through the process and see me out the other side of it. He was always matter of fact about details, even the ugly ones, without being harsh or blunt and I never felt rushed and always left his office with all my questions answered. Tray exudes confidence without being egotistical or cocky and that's very difficult to find in his profession. I'm extremely thankful to have had Tray at my side and in my corner.
