Our History

Our law firm was founded by Howard E. Baumgartner, who opened an office in the First Bank of Berne building on Jefferson Street on December 1, 1950. Over the years, our firm has grown and evolved, with James E. Beitler, Jr. joining the firm in 1974, followed by David N. Baumgartner in 1985, and most recently, Nicholas J. Baumgartner in 2017. We moved to our current location on Main Street in November of 2013.

Estate Planning & Administration

Our estate planning services include drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney, as well as establishing guardianships and conservatorships. We also assist in the administration of estates, including probate, trust administration, and estate tax returns.

Business & Commercial Law

We provide a wide range of legal services for businesses, including business formation, contract drafting, business transactions, and litigation. Our goal is to help our clients devise long-term plans for their businesses and protect their interests.

Real Estate Transactions

Our real estate practice covers all aspects of buying, selling, and owning property. This includes drafting and reviewing purchase agreements, mortgages, deeds, and other real estate documents, as well as representing clients in real estate disputes.

Taxation

We assist clients with all aspects of taxation, including preparing and filing tax returns, representing clients before the IRS, and providing tax planning advice.

Municipal Law

We represent local governments and other public entities in a variety of legal matters, including zoning and land use issues, contract disputes, and litigation.

Community Service

At Baumgartner Attorneys PC, we believe in giving back to our community. We have assisted in forming many not-for-profit organizations, usually at little or no cost, and have consistently supported such organizations financially and by serving on their committees and boards.
