Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, P.A. is a Delaware law firm that has been serving the legal needs of individuals, families, and businesses in Sussex County and throughout the state for many years. Our firm was founded in December 2007 by John A. Sergovic, Jr., former shareholder and managing partner of Sergovic & Ellis, P.A. and Shannon Carmean Burton, formerly Shannon D. Carmean, former associate attorney at Sergovic & Ellis, P.A.

Our Firm's History

In 2012, our firm expanded in number and scope of practice areas when David J. Weidman joined us as a new partner. In 2016, we merged with Smith McCartney & Owens, LLC, a Delaware law firm, which brought us Deirdre A. McCartney and Shannon R. Owens on board. This merger marked a significant milestone in our firm's history, as it enabled us to broaden our services and expertise to better serve our clients. In 2018, Harold W.T. Purnell, II joined our firm, and Tyler Friedman joined us as a law clerk in 2022 and was sworn into the Delaware Bar in 2023.
