Our History

Murphy McCoubrey's roots can be traced back to the 1930s when Attorneys Thomas D. Murphy, Sr. and William K. McCoubrey began their legal careers in Massachusetts. The firm's legacy has endured through 13 presidential terms and numerous economic downturns. Founded in 1953, the firm's original founders became prominent figures within the community. They represented various local clients, organizations, and corporations, even serving as General Counsel for Chicopee Savings Bank, Peter Pan Bus Lines, and Springfield Water and Sewer Commission.

The firm's milestones include the addition of Michael J. and Thomas D. Jr., sons of Thomas D. Murphy, Sr., and Arthur T. McCoubrey, son of William K. McCoubrey. These subsequent generations attended law school and joined the firm after their military service. The firm's members continue the tradition of community involvement, holding positions on various boards such as the Chicopee Boys and Girls Club, the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, the Chicopee St. Patrick's Parade Committee, Chicopee Savings Bank, the Chicopee Rotary Club, Baystate Medical Center, and Elms College.
